Submissions are invited for the 5th UK Workshop on Case-Based Reasoning. Continuing the pattern established by
Ian Watson in previous UKCBR workshops, this will be a relatively informal occasion where you can meet CBR colleagues
and exchanges news, views and opinions as well as presenting and/or learning about the work of other researchers
and practitioners.
This year the workshop will be held at Peterhouse, Cambridge, jointly with the British Computer Society SGES ES 2000 conference. The workshop will run in parallel with the ES 2000 Tutorials on the first day of the conference. As colleagues who have attended the ES 98 or ES 99 conferences will confirm, Peterhouse, which is the oldest and smallest of the Cambridge colleges, is an excellent venue.
Scope of the Workshop
Papers submissions are invited on any aspect of case-based reasoning. Papers on practical applications of CBR will
be particularly welcome. Possible topics include, but are not restricted to:
· the theory of CBR
· methods for case adaptation, indexing, retrieval, representation
· hybrid CBR systems
· CBR in data mining and knowledge discovery in databases
· knowledge acquisition, modelling, and management for CBR
· CBR in engineering, design, manufacturing
· CBR and the Internet
· e-Commerce applications of CBR
· CBR and human learning
· CBR in software engineering
· CBR in healthcare
· analogical reasoning
Although this is the UK Workshop on CBR, a warm invitation is extended also to researchers from outside the UK
to submit a paper, or otherwise attend.

Submissions in Word format are preferred; but if this a problem, then use whatever format is convenient. Formatting instructions for the final camera-ready copy will be sent with the acceptance notification.
Workshop Organisation
The workshop will be limited to a maximum of 30 attendees.
The cost of attendance will be:
* £ 80, if attending the workshop only,
* £ 50, if also attending the ES 2000 conference.
Student Rate
So as to encourage student participation in the workshop, the BCS SGES has made arrangements to subsidise genuine
students who wish to attend the UKCBR Workshop only but are not presenting a paper. The UKCBR workshop organisers
are therefore in a position to offer a student rate of £50 for non-presenting students.
The workshop fee will include lunch and a copy of the workshop proceedings.
